Speaker: Steve introduced Mike White who spoke to us on American participation in World War I. Mike explained the difference between "trouser rabbits" and “trench rabbits”. During its time the War was known as the Great War, little did humanity know that it

was the first of several major conflicts that would take place during the Twentieth Century. 2017 marks the 100th Anniversary of America’s entrance into a War that marred much of Europe and changed forever how nations would connect. The technology changed so quickly those armies could not keep up with the new conditions that were created. Michael introduced the audience to many of the small items that soldiers of this War had to use and carry on them, to insure their very survival on the battlefield. Michael Bailey has worked in the history field for over thirty years; starting in Indiana with archaeology, and later joining the museum profession. Along the way he has worked in libraries, historical sites and museums. Michael was also the mayor of a small town in Minnesota. Earning BAs in History and Anthropology, he later obtained a Graduate Certificate from George Washington University and completed a curatorial program at Rutgers University. Michael now makes his home in Brazoria County where he works in the museum field as a curator and participates with several re-enactment organizations which strive to preserve and present Texas History. For his work with Texas History he was commissioned an Admiral in the Texas Navy by the Governor of Texas and awarded an Honorary Membership in the Sons of the Republic of Texas. Mike concluded his presentation at 7:44 PM when he opened the floor for questions.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 P.M.
