Speaker:
Steve had Tom introduce Lois Gibson who is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as The World’s Most Successful Forensic Artist. Surviving a near-death attack at the hands of a murderous felon motivated Lois to create the forensic artist job at the Houston Police Department where she has helped bring in over 1,266 criminals. She wrote Faces of Evil, a gripping true-crime book detailing her most fascinating cases. She also constructed the first textbook teaching her profession to other artists titled Forensic Art Essentials. She teaches forensic art to students from all over the world at Northwestern University. She is a graduate of the University of Texas and the FBI Academy Forensic Artist Course. Gibson used her expertise to identify the Sailor kissing the nurse in the famous end of WWII photo. Lois has been an accomplished portrait artist for 44 years. She was the artist chosen to paint Houston’s Mayor Robert C. Lanier, Texas hero Juan Seguin (Seguin Texas is named after him) and two other mayors of San Antonio. She currently appears in exciting segments of TRU TV Network’s Forensic Files, A & E’s First 48, and Investigation Discovery---the ID Channel.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:33 P.M.
On June 20, Chapter 2 officers met to discuss chapter business. Attendees were: Robert Gindratt, Larry Armstrong, Steve Manis, Billy Mayo, Clark Wright, and Ron Schoolcraft. Ron had passed around a new members book that the Piney Woods chapter produces for each of their new members. This is a loose leaf binder with about 30 pages of information about the chapter, the society and other organizations for which they have Association. Steve indicated that he would look into doing something like this for our new members. Steve indicated that he would be going to the meeting of the Lamar chapter which holds its meetings in Richmond. This will be reactivation of that chapter. Steve indicated that it would be desirable to get reimbursement from each of the four chapter in the district in order to give reinstated chapters seed money. We next discussed the issue of printouts that have to be done for the meetings: the agendas, menus, applications, etc. Billy does the menus but Steve has used up his printer and needs another. Robert moved to reimburse Steve $170 for a new printer, the motion was amended to buy the chapter a printer. There was no dissension to this motion. Billy moved to reimburse Steve for his expenses and also to cover pass expenses which Steve has incurred. The motion to buy a printer was seconded by Billy and passed unanimously. We then moved into the expenses for the speaker for the July meeting. Steve indicates that she has to drive some distance and it was passed that the chapter should pay $50 for her expenses to get to the meeting. We discussed the new Veteran Medals. Ron indicated that a number had been provided at the annual meeting but that there was one left over and he purchased it. We asked where the next annual meeting would be held and it was indicated that it would be in Beaumont. We discussed upcoming meetings. We will not be meeting in August. But the subject of the October meeting was discussed and we will probably set that during the next regular membership meeting, July 17th.
